A PRN (aka "per diem") Nurse position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jon Houck at the Mind Research Network. The Nurse will support ongoing federally-funded clinical research projects at the Mind Research Network. Both Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN) are encouraged to apply.
The Nurse will assist study staff in determining medical eligibility of participants for studies, assist with medical screening visits, conduct medication side effect assessments, assess for safety if patients have side effects and appropriately triage for recommend additional medical care if needed, assist with scheduling follow-up medical visits, review and sign-off on screening laboratory tests, and may assist with monitoring study participants (e.g. monitoring vital signs) during laboratory visits, and perform all other related study duties and tasks as required or assigned.
This is a PRN position, or 'as needed', with hours to be arranged. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Requires a minimum of a Licensed Practical Nursing license valid in the State of New Mexico, and a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must have the ability to understand and follow basic scientific research protocols and procedures and demonstrated clinical skills necessary to effectively provide appropriate support to research participants. The Nurse should have an appropriate demeanor and participant-service approach required in a clinical research environment.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively work independently and as part of a research team. Must have the ability to maintain participant confidentiality, a high degree of professionalism, and strong organizational and time-management skills.
Experience in clinical research settings and experience with clinical assessments is preferred.
Work is performed in both a medical laboratory environment and a dry laboratory environment. Position requires walking and/or standing most of the day with awkward reaching or strained positions. Will interact with research participants. May lift, carry, push, pull, objects up to 20lbs. Potential exposure to body fluids, blood, and blood borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste materials, and/or needle stick.
