Overview

Reporting to the Senior Director of Facilities & Safety and under limited direction, the Facilities Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Institute’s facilities and physical plant.  The Director will play a pivotal role in effectively managing the Facilities Department to ensure a safe and efficient working environment across all Lovelace campuses.

 

The Director will manage the daily operations of all campuses including coordinating building maintenance/preventative maintenance, directing repairs of equipment and systems, managing external vendors, contractors and service providers, coordinating office and laboratory relocations, expansions and renovations, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

 

Will ensure that all facilities adhere to pertinent safety regulations and applicable building codes, monitor and maintain facility management software and hardware systems, implement policies and procedures to ensure the most efficient operation of campus facilities, oversee and manage project budgets, and prepare regular reports to Institute leadership on facility operations.

 

The Director will also lead and manage the Facilities Department staff to include identifying staffing needs and available expertise, providing leadership and mentoring to all department staff, directing the recruiting and selection process for all department positions, and working with the Human Resources Department as needed on performance evaluations, training and development of staff.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field and 7-10 years of directly related progressively responsible facilities management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Requires a minimum of 2 years of previous personnel management.

 

Must have previous demonstrated experience overseeing the operations of a large and complex facility department including an in-depth knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and facility-related regulations.  Familiarity with HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other essential building systems is required.  The ideal candidate will be up-to-date on industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies in facility management.

 

Requires previous experience effectively leading a large team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and the ability to prioritize departmental functions and responsibilities to meet deadlines and goals.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous success in developing professional and effective relationships with both administrative and non-administrative managers and colleagues, and the ability to effectively communicate facility needs to Institute leadership.

 

Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy and discretion; excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills; and strong customer-service skills.  Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required.  The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with solid judgment and discretion is critical, as well as the ability to perform duties independently.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a variety of settings including office and laboratory environments, as well as in outdoor areas.  Will frequently stand, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, etc.), reach/work overhead, frequently lift/carry/push/pull heavy objects that weigh up to 50 pounds and perform desk-based computer tasks.  Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator.  Will work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.

Salary
