Overview

The Mind Research Network (MRN), a division of the Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI), is currently seeking a Research Coordinator to oversee Dr. Mayer's clinical and pre-clinical lab. The successful applicant will work effectively with the Principal Investigators, Research Scientists, Research Coordinators, Grants Management Team and Accountants.

 

The Research Coordinator provides and oversees a diverse range of activities within Dr. Mayer's lab for MRN, which requires specialized knowledge in both clinical and preclinical research. The Coordinator contributes to the overall success of the team by effectively communicating with a wide range of constituents. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES included but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Plans and coordinates the development, implementation, execution, and completion of multiple research projects and other initiatives designed to achieve the overall mission, goals, and objectives of Dr. Mayer’s lab
    • Oversees and administers all aspects of research operations to include: special meetings/events, database development and management, progress reports, budget justifications, internal budgets, requisitions and expenditures. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities and monitors and summarizes progress of project recruiting and milestones
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; particular emphasis in technical and scientific writing ability is essential
    • Manage the administrative infrastructure of the research, including overseeing the functions of grant development/preparation, human research and review committee (HRRC/IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) office management, operational logistics, personnel management, and department reports
    • Direct participation in pre-clinical and clinical research studies at multiple campuses within Albuquerque
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
    • Promoting effective and productive staff activities by visibly focusing on and participating in critical tasks, ensuring deadlines are met, promoting best practices through example, and use of outstanding communication and coordination practices
    • Administrative management of multiple service and imaging cores

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been attained.  Candidates with a M.A are also encouraged to apply.  

 

The Research Coordinator position requires a sound knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to human subject and preclinical/animal research administration.

 

Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.

 

Must have demonstrated success in working independently as well as a part of a team, and the ability to work against firm deadlines. 

 

Must have experience developing, planning and implementing short- and long-range research goals.

 

Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access, as well as Google platforms.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a science discipline or a related field.
  • Expertise in scientific protocol and consent form writing/editing, as well as working with IRBs for protocol management across the study lifecycle.  
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical and scientific writing.
  • CCRP, CIP or related clinical research/IRB certification.
  • Experience in personnel management for maximal productivity, team work, team communication and supervisory skills.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a dry laboratory environment.  Will operate standard office equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.  May interact with research participants.

 

Work is performed in correctional facilities.  Will interact with incarcerated individuals.
