Overview

A Research Assistant I position is currently available in Dr. Kent Kiehl’s laboratory at The Mind Research Network in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Duties include working with a research team on several grant funded studies designed to evaluate neurobehavioral characteristics of incarcerated criminal offenders with antisocial (e.g., psychopathic) traits, substance use disorders, and/or past traumatic events (including traumatic brain injury). Our studies also investigate the impact of treatment (e.g., mindfulness, cognitive skills training) as well long-term outcomes post-release from incarceration. The RAI will assist with recruiting, scheduling, and screening study participants, file scanning, data entry, and various data management projects (coding, scoring, etc.). Depending on interests and experience, training may also be provided in in the administration and scoring of clinical interviews and neuropsychological tests, and/or collecting/analyzing brain imaging (e.g., functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)) data. All candidates should possess strong interest in research with incarcerated populations.

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Individuals with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, or pursuing a degree in a related field are preferred. Those with experience and interest in neuroscience, clinical psychology, and/or neuroimaging are strongly encouraged to apply. Individuals with current experience in neuroimaging and MEG data collection are preferred.

 

Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a dry laboratory environment.  Will operate standard office equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.  May interact with research participants.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
