Under minimal supervision, conducts experiments complex in nature under the direction of scientific staff. Submits, recommends, and schedules experiments including preparation, protocols, reports and budgets. Performs varied studies, usually complex in nature, using accepted procedures. Collaborates with research staff. Independently writes standard operation procedures, contributing scientist reports, and cost estimates. Authors sections of publications Supervises professional and/or technical staff and provides training.
Requires a masters degree in a relevant scientific discipline and a minimum of 5 years of directly-related research experience; or an equivalent combination of education and training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder in order to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
Ph.D. preferred.
Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment. Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.
