Under general supervision of Comparative Medicine Management and/or staff veterinarians, cares for animals and cleans facilities used in experimental and breeding colonies. CMAR Technicians provide daily husbandry of laboratory animals to include (but not limited to) observation of animals, handling and restraint, feeding and watering, changing cages/racks, and sanitizing animal quarters and equipment for multiple species.  Operates and/or use supplies and equipment necessary to perform the husbandry duties and/or cage wash duties as assigned.  Previous work with non-humane primates and dogs preferred but not required.  Weekend work required.   Provides daily record keeping for animals and room environments in accordance with LBRI quality assurance standards and regulations. Will maintain cleanliness of the cage wash area, warehouse, diet kitchen and any animal equipment storage areas. Outstanding Communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with team members and all professionals is a must.  This is an entry level position that does not require previous animal handling or cleaning experience.

Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute is seeking a Biosafety Officer who will be responsible for protecting the Institute’s employees, contractors, visitors, the general public and the environment from potential exposures to Select Agents and Toxins; and to ensure that the Institute maintains full compliance with both the letter and the spirit of the Select Agents and Toxins regulations as well as all other applicable governmental regulations and guidelines, and internal requirements.    The Biosafety Officer will also serve as Responsible Official (RO).  As RO, will ensure compliance with all aspects of the Institute’s Select Agent Program in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Select Agents and Toxins regulations.  Will develop and implement supporting health and safety programs.  Will be responsible for reviewing and updating the Institute’s Select Agents Biosafety and Chemical Hygiene Plan, Security Plan and Incident and Emergency Response Plan.    Will review research projects involving human and animal pathogens or biological toxins, including select agents, recombinant DNA, transgenic plants and animals and advises researchers regarding appropriate biocontainment levels, safety practices and applicable regulatory guidelines. Provides assistance to researchers in obtaining and maintaining any required import or interstate transport permits for biological materials to be used at LBRI and transports infectious materials between campuses as needed, and perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

Under general direction, the Laboratory Technician will perform a variety of tasks in the immunology and large molecule bioanalytical chemistry group as a part of the Scientific Core Laboratories. The work is performed within a highly regulated environment and as such compliance with documentation standards is required. Individual will complete moderately complex work assignments as well as documenting laboratory work and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned. This position is PRN or “as needed” and is not eligible for benefits.   The expectation is that the ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of chemistry and be willing and able to learn on the job from experienced staff. The immunology and large molecule bioanalytical chemistry group is a portion of a larger chemistry group (bioanalytical, analytical and formulations) and therefore the expectation is that the ideal candidate will be able to be cross train within the broader chemistry groups.
